You may not realize it, but in a former life I was a DJ for 20 years with my partner, Edgar. We both had been DJing a bit in High School and then when we met Freshman year at Loyola Marymount University in 1993, we joined forces and decided to create a company called Karizma Entertainment. We DJ’ed hundreds, if not thousands of events together.
We’ve always been very close and, coincidentally he became my first CSQ investor with his wife, Cheryl. I’m also the godfather to his eldest daughter who just graduated college! But that’s a story for another time.
The point I wanted to make is that music has always been a very big part of my life.
As such, I knew I needed a theme song for CSQ and after 3 years I finally found it at a concert with my daughter. Our first concert together, no less!
It also happened to be my first country concert and it was a song from the opening act, Jordan Davis. It’s called “Buy Dirt”. Of course it had to have a real estate spin to it, but the family aspect to it is what really hit home for me. When you have 3 minutes to sit down away from the distractions, listen to the lyrics and reflect on what it means to you.
It isn’t easy being a business owner and raising 5 kids in Los Angeles, but then again, I never liked the easy path anyways. I was born the oldest of 5 kids and now the family cycle continues.
CSQ continues to “Buy Dirt”, typically with an apartment building on it, but nonetheless, building a portfolio of properties that can give our investors “Freedom Through Passive Income”.
That “Freedom” will have a different meaning for each of us, but it will also be used differently for each of us. For me, I put a significant amount of that “Freedom” into my family. And as Jordan Davis says, “It all goes by real quick. You can’t buy happiness, but you can Buy Dirt.”
I hope as you wrap up your week, you’re able to find the time to spend the time with loved ones because, as the 80 year old mentioned in the song, “It all goes by real quick.”
